SFMI:s ordförande, Daniel Karlsson,  har tilldelats "IHTSDO Award for Excellence".

Daniel Karlsson has been continuously involved as an advisor and doer in different positions related to the content in SNOMED CT since the start of IHTSDO. Of extra importance is his chairmanship in the Observable and Investigation Model Project, his membership in the Content Committee, his involvement in the Consultant Terminologist Program and his membership in the Expert Reference Group for IHTSDO SNOMED CT Functioning development project that collaborated with WHO. Daniel bases his advice on research findings from his own and other researchers’ projects in the medical informatics and knowledge representation domain to prepare SNOMED CT to suit also future demands. Another source of knowledge for his advice is his previous leadership of terminology development in one of Sweden’s healthcare regions.

Daniel’s involvement in other organizations has also facilitated the content of SNOMED CT to better match supplementary standards and to facilitate both formal and informal collaboration with other organizations. Daniel is Member of Committee for Nomenclature, Properties and Units (C-NPU) at The International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) and International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), member in the Clinical Information Modeling Initiative (CIMI) Modeling Task Force and Chair of the board of the Swedish Federation for Medical Informatics and has been secretary in the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) TC 251/WG 2 Terminology and knowledge representation. He is also involved and provides useful insights about SNOMED CT in the European Union Horizon 2020 project Assessing SNOMED CT for Large Scale eHealth Deployments in the EU (ASSESS CT).
